20s Model Couple Arrested for Growing and Smoking Marijuana at Home

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] A couple of models in their 20s who grew and smoked marijuana at home were caught by the police.

The Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency announced on the 23rd that model A (24, male), B (28, female), and three accomplices were booked without detention on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.

The couple, A and B, who are in a romantic relationship, are suspected of cultivating marijuana at their home in Seoul since last year, drying it, and smoking it.

They also smoked marijuana with three acquaintances, including fellow models, at their home, and it was investigated that they installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) outside the house to prepare for police raids.

During the police investigation, they reportedly stated that "we encountered marijuana while traveling abroad and learned cultivation methods through the internet."

The police seized 170g of marijuana stored at A’s residence.

The police also booked C (52, male, livestock farmer) without detention on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.

C is suspected of cultivating and smoking marijuana in a mountain forest in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. About 4.1kg of dried marijuana was reportedly found at C’s home.

In the police investigation, C claimed, "I brought wild marijuana from a nearby mountain forest and smoked it," and reportedly denied the cultivation charges.

The police are conducting an investigation after detecting circumstances suggesting that C intended to sell marijuana to a third party.
