Seongdong-gu Lifelong Learning Festival 'Falling in Baeum愛' Opens

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Although the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) shook the entire country this year, the passion for learning across all generations did not stop.

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) has prepared the lifelong learning festival "Falling in Love with Learning" that embraces all generations?from children to seniors?who shared the learning space and lifelong learning program participants who passionately pursued their studies despite difficult circumstances.

On the 27th, at Seongdong-gu’s humanities lifelong learning center, "Dokseodang Humanities Academy," various lifelong learning program achievements operated by the district since March will be shared, and special lectures, exhibitions, and experience zones will be held to contribute to the spread of lifelong learning culture.

The special lecture will be delivered by Professor Lee Ho-seon, who has recently appeared on various broadcasts such as KBS Morning Yard, Ask Me Anything, and Sebasi, under the theme "How to Live More Enjoyably as You Age."

The lecture will be held offline with a limit of 25 participants and simultaneously live-streamed on Seongdong-gu Office’s YouTube channel. Any Seongdong-gu resident can participate in the lecture by pre-registering.

The students’ exhibition will be held from the 27th to December 4th. For eight days, crafts and watercolor artworks created by lifelong learning center and neighborhood learning center students will be displayed, showcasing the skills they have acquired through lifelong learning courses.

Additionally, various "Lifelong Learning Program Experience Zones" such as calligraphy, sock yarn crafts, and hanging plant (decorations hung with flowerpots) making will be operated.

Meanwhile, Seongdong-gu opened the lifelong learning center "Dokseodang Humanities Academy Center" in July 2017 to support education throughout residents’ entire lives. Centered on humanities lectures, it operates various lifelong education programs including language, lifestyle, and culture courses. Utilizing idle spaces in neighborhoods, it also runs neighborhood-level lifelong learning centers called "Neighborhood Learning Centers," allowing residents to participate in lifelong learning close to their homes, receiving great responses from residents.

This year as well, by running 53 courses and experience programs both online and offline in parallel despite difficult circumstances, the district has satisfied residents’ desire for lifelong learning.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "I believe lifelong learning opens the way to live a long life of 100 years young and joyfully," and added, "We will do our best to create a lifelong learning city with a high happiness index in Seongdong-gu through the development and support of various lifelong learning programs that many residents can freely participate in anytime."
