[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Josh, the YouTuber known as 'Youngguknamja' (Korean Englishman), who faced controversy over violations of quarantine rules and tax evasion allegations, has shared his thoughts.
On the 23rd, Josh posted on his Instagram, "I’m sorry for being out of touch for a while. It has been a mentally difficult time. I still feel my mental health is not fully recovered, so I have decided to focus on the people around me."
He added, "It may take some time, but I want to come back stronger. Thank you for the overwhelming love and support."
Earlier, Josh’s wife, Gukgabi, sparked controversy by uploading a video on YouTube showing a birthday party during her self-quarantine period after returning to Korea in October.
Gukgabi later deleted the video and temporarily suspended her activities.
Josh also announced the suspension of his YouTube activities, saying, "I will take sufficient time to reflect so that I never make such mistakes again."
The couple was also embroiled in controversy over tax evasion allegations. It was claimed that Josh’s YouTube channel 'Youngguknamja' generates revenue in Korea but pays taxes only in the UK.
In response, Josh explained, "I am faithfully paying taxes according to the tax laws of each country for income generated in both Korea and the UK."
Meanwhile, Josh, who runs the YouTube channel 'Youngguknamja,' first met domestic viewers by appearing on tvN's 'Let's Go Time Expedition 2' in 2014, and last year appeared on Channel A's 'Youngguknamja’s JMT Lab.' He is also well known to the Korean public as the husband of Gukgabi, the runner-up of Olive's 'MasterChef Korea Season 3' aired in 2014.
