[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education will switch all classes for third-year high school students in Jeonnam to remote learning to prevent the spread of COVID-19 ahead of the College Scholastic Ability Test.
According to Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 23rd, starting from the 24th, social distancing will be raised to level 1.5 for all third-year high school students, and an emergency academic operation adjustment plan has been prepared to prevent COVID-19 infection. The Office plans to convert all classes for third-year high school students to remote learning.
For first- and second-year high school students, general test site schools will conduct remote classes from the 27th, while separate test site schools and non-test site schools will conduct remote classes from the 30th until the 4th of next month.
This academic operation adjustment is a measure to prevent group infections of COVID-19, ensure stable test site operations, and minimize the spread in case of confirmed cases among third-year examinees, supervisors, and headquarters personnel.
Academic operations for kindergartens, elementary schools, and middle schools have also been adjusted. In the Suncheon area, where social distancing has been raised to level 2, one-third attendance is recommended for kindergartens and elementary schools, two-thirds attendance for middle and high schools, and half attendance for the special school, Suncheon Seonhye School.
In other areas, starting from the 24th, all schools are required to comply with two-thirds attendance density. However, small schools (kindergartens with 60 or fewer students, elementary and middle schools with around 300 students), rural schools, and first- and second-grade elementary students are exempt from the density measures. Additionally, care services, basic academic support, and supplementary instruction for students who have recently entered the country are also exempt from the density standards.
Director of Education Wi Kyung-jong stated, “Since examinees will participate in university-specific admissions even after the CSAT, it is important to prioritize safety above all,” and emphasized, “Not only the educational community but the entire local community will do their best to protect the health of the examinees.”
