Over 1,000 Students Confirmed COVID-19 Positive Ahead of CSAT... 164 Schools Suspend In-Person Classes As one student at Nonsan High School in Chungnam tested positive for COVID-19, health authorities set up a temporary clinic at the school on the 23rd to conduct COVID-19 tests for all students and staff.

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The cumulative number of students confirmed with the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has surpassed 1,000. It has been six months since sequential in-person classes began on May 20.


The Ministry of Education announced on the 23rd that the number of confirmed student cases surged over the weekend, increasing by 76 from the 20th to reach 1,028. Including 2 cases omitted on the 19th, there were 36 new confirmed cases on the 20th, 23 on the 21st, and 15 on the 22nd.


The cumulative number of confirmed cases among faculty and staff reached 198, an increase of 18.


As of 10 a.m. on the day, 164 schools had adjusted their in-person class schedules. This is 2 more schools than those with adjusted schedules compared to the previous day. This is the highest number of schools suspending in-person classes since September 18.


By region, Jeonnam had the highest number with 41 schools. This was followed by Gyeonggi with 39 schools, Seoul with 32, Gangwon with 25, Gyeongbuk with 14, Chungbuk with 8, Chungnam with 2, and Busan, Incheon, and Gyeongnam each with 1 school.
