27 Excellent Startup Idea Teams Move into Clinic 1 Center, Achieve 450 Million KRW in Sales
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) has opened SNK-Clinic Centers 1 and 2, which will serve as hubs for startup support systems and regional linkage programs.
The ‘SNK’ in SNK-Clinic Center stands for the first letters of Seoul, Nowon, and Gwangwoon University. The center is named ‘Clinic’ to introduce the concept of a primary care provider, aiming to solve and heal various problems that arise during the startup process.
Clinic Center 1 is located at 51 Gwangun-ro 15-gil (Wolgye 1-dong), with a total floor area of 329㎡. It is a remodeled former dormitory of Gwangwoon University, reborn as a startup space from the basement to the third floor. The basement houses meeting rooms, the second floor includes exhibition space and a shared caf?, the second floor also contains startup studios, and the third floor is used as a stay-type startup space.
Clinic Center 2 is located on the basement first floor of the library building within Gwangwoon University, with a total floor area of 283㎡. It is equipped with an open lecture space with a beam projector, startup booths, meeting rooms, and other facilities.
With the opening of SNK-Clinic Centers 1 and 2, all facilities for the comprehensive campus town development project at Gwangwoon University, which runs until 2022, have been opened. Previously completed SNK-Vitamin Center (33 Gwangun-ro 6-gil) is equipped with a 3D printer room and seminar rooms and serves as a residence space for early-stage startup teams. SNK-Startup Station (3rd floor, Gwangwoon University Station, 98-2 Seokgye-ro) is currently used as a residence space for prospective entrepreneurs.
As of November 2020, 27 startup teams that presented excellent ideas in startup competitions have moved into Clinic Center 1, Vitamin Center, and Startup Station, generating approximately 450 million KRW in sales.
The district plans to collaborate with the Gwangwoon University Campus Town Project Promotion Team to select outstanding entrepreneurs through competitions by 2022, select resident companies for the facilities, and provide startup education programs and related information.
Meanwhile, since being selected in 2018 through a joint application with Gwangwoon University for the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s ‘Comprehensive Campus Town Project’ contest, the district has been focusing on creating a ‘startup-friendly city’ by integrating regional and university assets through technology convergence such as ICT, robotics, and drones in the ‘SNK-Startup Friendly Campus Town Development’.
Additionally, to comprehensively and systematically promote the comprehensive campus towns of Gwangwoon University, Induk University, and unit-type campus towns of Samyook University, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, and Seoul Women’s University, the district has organized and operates a Campus Town Development Team within the Urban Management Division.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “I hope the Clinic Centers will become a cornerstone for creating a future startup ecosystem,” and added, “We will establish a continuous cooperative system with local universities to provide hope to residents and young entrepreneurs.”
