18 Athletes and Medical Staff Transported Domestically
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Asiana Airlines will deploy a charter flight to transport the South Korean men's national soccer team stranded in Europe due to a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Asiana Airlines announced on the 23rd that it will operate flight OZ5477 (B777) at 12:00 PM on the 24th to send medical staff to Vienna, Austria. Flight OZ5487, carrying medical personnel and 18 team members, is scheduled to arrive in Korea at 6:00 AM on the 26th.
Due to multiple confirmed cases on this charter flight, Asiana Airlines will strictly adhere to quarantine guidelines, including cabin crew wearing protective suits. Additionally, after the charter flight arrives, testing and self-quarantine measures will be implemented according to quarantine protocols.
An Asiana Airlines official stated, "Although there were many difficulties since Vienna Airport is not a regular destination, we decided to urgently deploy the charter flight as the official sponsor airline of the Republic of Korea national team," adding, "We have thoroughly prepared to ensure the safety of the players and the crew on board the charter flight."
Meanwhile, Asiana Airlines has supported the South Korean national soccer team’s overseas matches as the official sponsor of the Korea Football Association since 1999.
