The Best-Selling 5G Phone in September is the 'Galaxy Note20 Ultra'

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Galaxy Note20 Ultra ranked as the best-selling 5G smartphone throughout September.

According to market research firm Counterpoint Research on the 23rd, among the top 10 global 5G smartphone sales in September, the Galaxy Note20 Ultra (50%) took the number one spot. Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S20 Plus (4.0%) and Galaxy Note20 (2.9%) ranked 4th and 8th respectively.

Eight out of the ten products are 5G smartphones from Chinese manufacturers. Among them, Huawei's flagship products P40 Pro (4.5%) ranked 2nd, Nova7 (4.3%) 3rd, P40 (3.8%) 5th, and Honor 30S (2.8%) 9th, with a total of four products in the rankings. It is also notable that Vivo took 6th place and Oppo took 7th and 10th places with mid-range 5G smartphones.

China, which holds 60% of the 5G smartphone market, is showing strong performance in the 5G smartphone market as well. Initially, the 5G smartphone market was formed around flagship product lines, but thanks to affordable 5G chipsets, the lineup has expanded to include mid-range products. Samsung Electronics also supports 5G in its A series.

The number of 5G smartphone models has also increased significantly within half a year. The number of 5G smartphones, which was around 50 in the first quarter, increased to about 200 by the third quarter. Sales volume also increased by more than 300% compared to the first quarter.

Counterpoint explained, "As of January, the top 10 models accounted for 93% of total 5G smartphone sales, but by September, this decreased to 37%," adding, "As more 5G phones are released and prices decrease, the sales share of top models will further decline."
