Dobong-gu, 50th Anniversary of Jeon Tae-il '2020 Play Jeon Tae-il' Performance

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) will hold a theatrical performance of the 2020 play Jeon Tae-il ‘What Is Your Name?’ on December 4th at 7 PM in the main auditorium of the Dobong-gu Community Center.

This performance is organized to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the martyr Jeon Tae-il, the pioneer of the Korean labor movement, and to celebrate the honorary road designation of Jeon Tae-il-gil (Haedeung-ro 25-gil, Dobong-gu).

The performance, with a running time of 120 minutes, unfolds as a musical narrative drama combining dense acting by the actors and more than 20 songs including ‘What Is Your Name?’, ‘Find the Book’, ‘Song of Sales’, ‘Song of Joy’, ‘For the Hope That Will Fall’, and ‘Song of Youth’.

Ten male and female Jeon Tae-ils appear, including a newspaper seller, umbrella seller, literary boy, and organizer, with an interesting direction that intertwines fact and fiction, expected to add to the play’s appeal.

To prevent COVID-19, the district will strictly follow social distancing and quarantine guidelines during the performance, including temperature checks before admission, mandatory mask-wearing for audience members, and spaced seating, ensuring residents can safely enjoy the cultural performance.

Tickets can be reserved in advance from Monday, November 23rd on the Dobong-gu website, and admission is free. Seating will be operated under a ‘distanced seating system’ in accordance with COVID-19 social distancing practices.

Mayor Lee Dong-jin of Dobong-gu said, “It has been 50 years since the beautiful youth Jeon Tae-il, who cried out for compliance with the Labor Standards Act and sacrificed himself, passed away. I hope that watching this Jeon Tae-il play will be a time to reflect on and feel together the noble message Jeon Tae-il gave us 50 years ago: a world where humans are respected, labor is respected, and we live happily together.”

Meanwhile, on November 11th, the district designated the road around the house at 208 Ssangmun-dong, Dobong-gu, where Jeon Tae-il lived during his lifetime, as the honorary road ‘Jeon Tae-il-gil’ (Haedeung-ro 25-gil, Dobong-gu).
