Assemblyman Jo O-seop's 'Special Act on Innovation Cities' Passed in the National Assembly Plenary Session

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jo Oseop, a member of the National Assembly (The Democratic Party of Korea·Gwangju Buk-gu Gap), who sponsored the partial amendment of the "Special Act on the Creation and Development of Innovation Cities (hereinafter referred to as the Innovation City Special Act)" and the partial amendment of the "Act on Supporting the Improvement of Quality of Life for Long-term Public Rental Housing Tenants," passed the National Assembly plenary session on the 19th.

The amendment to the Innovation City Special Act passed the National Assembly plenary session with 223 votes in favor, 5 against, and 20 abstentions out of 248 members present.

With the passage of this amendment, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will annually disclose the plans necessary for regional development established and implemented by relocated public institutions, the performance of these plans, the priority purchase plans of relocated public institutions, and the previous year's purchase performance.

Accordingly, it is expected that relocated public institutions to innovation cities will be incentivized to purchase more goods and products from local companies, thereby providing tangible benefits to the regional economy.

Along with this, the amendment to the Act on Supporting Long-term Public Rental Housing also passed with 235 votes in favor, 2 against, and 13 abstentions out of 248 members present.

This amendment includes provisions allowing the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and heads of local governments to conduct annual surveys on the status of facility aging and other related matters.

This lays the foundation for sustainable facility improvements for long-term public rental housing.

Assemblyman Jo said, "It is difficult to even propose a bill, but we have achieved the result of passing it through the plenary session," and added, "I will strive to ensure that other bills I have sponsored, such as the law excluding Jeon Du-hwan from the state funeral, which are still under discussion in the standing committee and the judiciary committee, are processed promptly."

He also stated, "I will work harder on legislative activities for regional development and for socially vulnerable groups who are blind spots in our society," and added, "With the power gathered from the people, I will do my best to make our society take one step forward."
