[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] In California, USA, over 15,000 new COVID-19 cases?the highest ever recorded?have been reported, prompting the state to implement a one-month nighttime curfew to curb the spread of the virus.
According to local media including Bloomberg on the 21st (local time), California reported 15,442 new COVID-19 cases in a single day, marking the highest daily increase since the pandemic began. As of this date, the state's total cumulative COVID-19 cases have reached approximately 1,098,000.
There were 86 new deaths reported, bringing the total death toll to 18,643.
To suppress the spread of COVID-19, California will enforce a nighttime curfew starting at 10 p.m. this evening. For one month, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day, individuals not engaged in essential work are prohibited from going outside or gathering.
However, businesses and stores such as 24-hour grocery stores, pharmacies, and factories, warehouses, and logistics companies with night shifts will be largely unaffected by this measure. Restaurants must cease dine-in services by 10 p.m., but takeout and delivery services may continue.
