[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Trade Commission of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a non-face-to-face online awards ceremony for the '2020 University (Graduate) Student Trade Remedy UCC Contest' on the 20th.

This contest was organized to enhance university (graduate) students' interest and understanding of the trade remedy field and to promote the trade remedy system in an easy-to-understand way through creative ideas.

The grand prize, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, was awarded to the Youth Trade Team, a coalition of Myongji University, Seoul National University, and Ewha Womans University, for their work titled "Leading the Global Trade Order with KTC (Trade Commission)."

They creatively portrayed a hypothetical case where a young entrepreneur used the Trade Commission's trade remedy system to protect the trademark of a self-developed clothing brand from counterfeit products.

Three teams were selected for the Excellence Award. The team Kim Jeong-sang from Duksung Women's University, who explained the anti-dumping tariff system through a steel product case judged by the Trade Commission, received the Chairman of the Trade Commission Award for their work "The Story of Anti-Dumping."

The coalition team from Dankook University and Kyonggi University, which introduced cases of domestic companies responding wisely to foreign anti-dumping measures with "Korean Companies Wisely Responding to Trade Remedies," received the Chairman of the Korea Federation of SMEs Award. The Let's Breed team from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, which implemented the process of realizing trade remedies against imported products sold with disguised origin in "Trade Expedition - Mask Refund Issue," won the Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association Award.

Other winners of the Excellence Award included the Dankook University Danmuji team, Myongji University Kim Hong-jo team, the coalition team Taoreumdal from Gyeongin Women's University and Anyang University, and the Yeungnam University Soonjinmugu team.

A total of 42 works were submitted from 18 universities for this contest.

Fresh ideas from university students were realized in works that expressed hypothetical unfair trade practice cases through role plays and visual materials and introduced ways to utilize trade remedies in an easy-to-understand manner. Many works were created through collaboration by teams jointly formed by departments responsible for content, such as trade studies, and departments responsible for video, such as media studies.

Considering the circumstances of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the Trade Commission conducted the entire contest process, from submission to evaluation and awarding, online and non-face-to-face.

The ideas discovered in this contest will be used for trade remedy promotion and online educational content. The Trade Commission plans to continuously expand related projects to cultivate trade remedy experts in the future.
