Governor Kim Kyung-soo: "Masan Free Trade Zone is a Symbol of South Korea's Industrialization, Moving Toward a New Future Through Innovation"

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Kim Kyung-soo, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, attended the 50th anniversary ceremony of the Masan Free Trade Zone held at the Masan Free Trade Zone Management Office on the afternoon of the 20th, where he delivered words of encouragement to businesspeople and officials.
The ceremony, held after being postponed twice due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), was also attended by Sung Yun-mo, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; Heo Seong-moo, Mayor of Changwon; National Assembly members Yoon Han-hong and Choi Hyung-doo, among others.
The ceremony proceeded in the order of screening a documentary video on the Masan Free Trade Zone, awarding commendations to meritorious persons, delivering commemorative and congratulatory speeches, presenting innovation strategies and visions for the free trade zone, and taking commemorative photos.
Established in 1970 to attract foreign investment and expand exports, the Masan Free Trade Zone, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, has greatly contributed to local employment creation and income growth, laying the foundation for South Korea's industrialization.
Every year, government awards, governor commendations, and Changwon mayor commendations are given to export contributors who have contributed to trade development.
The province expanded the number of commendation recipients from three last year to six this year, with Park Jung-won, Director of Adtech Co., Ltd., and five others receiving awards.
In his congratulatory speech, Governor Kim Kyung-soo said, “The Masan Free Trade Zone, together with the Gyeongnam Changwon National Industrial Complex, is a symbol of industrialization not only in Gyeongnam but in the Republic of Korea,” adding, “The new 50 years of innovation to be created based on the past 50 years of history is important.”
He also stated, “In the post-COVID era, the movement of goods is increasing, which can be a new opportunity for our manufacturing and industrial sectors,” and emphasized, “There is no future without innovation, so let us create a new 50 years of innovation together with determination.”
