[Asia Economy Reporter Seolgina Jo] The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on the afternoon of the 20th that it held a Personal Information Protection Policy Council at the Government Seoul Office, chaired by Vice Chairman Choi Young-jin, with participation from related government ministries.
At the meeting, participants discussed the 'Basic Plan for Personal Information Protection' and the 'Discovery and Promotion of Pilot Cases for Pseudonymized Information Integration' for safe data utilization.
The 'Basic Plan for Personal Information Protection' is a comprehensive plan outlining the direction and strategy of South Korea's personal information protection policy for the next three years (2021?2023). Since its launch last August, the Personal Information Protection Commission has been working on reestablishing the basic plan based on a new environmental analysis.
The 'Pilot Cases for Pseudonymized Information Integration' refer to matters collaboratively identified by related agencies to create a safe data utilization environment through discovering leading cases for public interest purposes using public data.
The Personal Information Protection Commission plans to disclose the discussed Basic Plan for Personal Information Protection and the pilot cases for pseudonymized information integration to the public after review and resolution by the Commission.
Vice Chairman Choi Young-jin of the Personal Information Protection Commission said, “This was a valuable opportunity to collaborate with related agencies on important tasks that the Personal Information Protection Commission must perform as the control tower for personal information protection, such as establishing the basic plan and promoting pilot cases for pseudonymized information integration,” and added, “We ask for active cooperation from related ministries for a safe personal information and trusted data era.”
