[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] GreenPlus, a specialized company in advanced greenhouses and smart farms, announced on the 19th that it has signed a construction contract for the 'Gyeongnam Smart Farm Innovation Valley' being built by the Korea Rural Community Corporation's Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters in Miryang. The contract amount is approximately 5.8 billion KRW.
The Innovation Valley construction project is one of the government's eight core innovation growth tasks, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. It is being implemented proactively by the government and local governments to expand smart farms. The project integrates information and communication technology (ICT) throughout the entire process from production to processing and distribution of agricultural, livestock, and fishery products. Four smart farm innovation valleys have been designated nationwide for this purpose.
This Gyeongnam Smart Farm Innovation Valley will be established on a 47.4-hectare site around Imcheon-ri, Miryang. Infrastructure will be developed on a 22.1-hectare area, and key facilities such as Rental Smart Farm 1 and 2, Youth Education and Management Smart Farm, Demonstration Smart Farm, and the Innovation Valley Support Center will be constructed. GreenPlus will prioritize the construction of Rental Smart Farm 1 and aims to proceed with contracts for the remaining smart farms within the year.
A GreenPlus official stated, "We were selected as the construction company for the Smart Farm Innovation Valley project in recognition of our company's technological capabilities," adding, "Gyeongnam Province judged the smart farm as a facility that integrates advanced agricultural technologies such as environmental control and smart equipment, and it is known that they carefully reviewed its appropriateness before selection."
