Gangdong-gu Office Open Garden and Iljasan Park Lawn Plaza Host 'Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will present an 'Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition' at the open yard of the district office and the grassy plaza of Iljasan Park in Dunchon-dong until the 19th of next month.

To help residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic enjoy artworks and find healing in their daily lives, art has been introduced into spaces frequently visited by residents.

Under the theme "The Power of Sculpture, Communication and Healing in the Untact Era," this exhibition features 24 domestic sculptors and 2 overseas sculptors, displaying 12 pieces at the district office open yard and 14 pieces at the Iljasan grassy plaza.

The exhibition includes participatory works completed through resident involvement rather than just viewing from afar, experiential works that allow visitors to touch and sit on the pieces to explore the artist's inner world, and appreciative works that can be enjoyed visually for their aesthetic and emotional elements.

During the exhibition, docents (exhibition guides) will be present to explain the artworks. Later, there will be opportunities for visitors to meet the artists on-site, who will share behind-the-scenes stories related to the creation of their works.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "I hope this outdoor sculpture exhibition provides residents with opportunities to enjoy culture and helps alleviate some of the fatigue caused by COVID-19. We will strive to create a high-quality cultural and artistic city where culture and art flow throughout the entire city."

This exhibition will be operated without an opening ceremony so that residents can freely visit. To prevent COVID-19, staff will be present on-site, and health protocols such as entry log registration, temperature checks, and mask-wearing will be strictly followed.
