Amazon Employees Arrested for Stealing iPhone 12s Worth 600 Million Won

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Amazon logistics center employees were caught smuggling iPhone 12s worth approximately 650 million KRW.

On the 17th (local time), five Amazon employees at the Amazon logistics center in Madrid, Spain, were arrested by the police for stealing iPhones. All five employees were fired and are awaiting trial.

Amazon discovered packages with weights different from the ordered items and installed cameras in unknown locations to the employees to identify the culprits.

The arrested logistics center employees used a method of swapping iPhones during the packaging process when orders for iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro were placed. It is known that accomplices ordered the iPhones.

The iPhones they smuggled amounted to about 500,000 euros (approximately 650 million KRW). At the time of arrest, they possessed about 10 iPhones and a large number of IMEI stickers removed from boxes to avoid tracking.

iPhones have consistently been targets of theft. In March, iPhones worth 3 million euros were found at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, and in May, 4,400 Apple Watches worth 530,000 euros were stolen from a warehouse near Schiphol Airport.
