K-water Declares Participation in RE100 as First Public Institution... "Climate Crisis Management"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Marking its 53rd anniversary, Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) has become the first public institution to declare participation in RE100. RE100 refers to replacing 100% of the electricity used by a company with renewable energy.

On the morning of the 16th, K-water held a 53rd anniversary ceremony at its headquarters in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, pledging to respond to the climate crisis and innovate water management centered on the public.

At this ceremony, K-water declared climate crisis management as the first public enterprise and resolved that all employees would unite to actively respond to the climate crisis.

Climate crisis management involves adapting to the climate crisis and reducing greenhouse gases by utilizing Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, and enhancing digital capabilities.

Additionally, in connection with the government's carbon neutrality declaration, K-water announced its participation in RE100 as the first public institution. It plans to support companies to promptly join RE100 by expanding the supply of clean water energy such as floating solar power and hydrothermal energy.

Committing to water management innovation centered on the public, K-water also presented concrete action plans for its leap toward becoming the "world's best comprehensive water platform company," a new vision declared in July.

Through technological innovation, it aims to secure global standards in the water management platform competition and strengthen the establishment of an integrated water management system, including public safety from water disasters and stable supply of clean water.

K-water will also do its best to fulfill social responsibilities such as reducing water fees for local governments to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, lowering rents for small business owners, creating an innovative water industry ecosystem, and generating quality jobs.

Park Jae-hyun, President of K-water, stated, "On the occasion of the corporation's 53rd anniversary, it is time to move beyond declaring climate crisis management to taking action to overcome the climate crisis. Based on collaboration with the government, local governments, and civil society, we will steadily promote climate crisis management and actively contribute to Korea's green transition as a specialized public water institution."
