'Youth of Nowon, Start as Your True Self!' Opening Ceremony at 10 PM on the 18th via Online Video... On-tact Participation through Facebook and Instagram... Online KartRider Tournament, Non-face-to-face Singing Contest, Relay Dance Battle, and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will hold the 2nd Nowon-gu Youth Festival ‘Nochul’ for 11 days from the 18th to the 28th, starting with an online opening ceremony.
‘Nochul’ is an abbreviation of the slogan, “Youth of Nowon, start as your true self!”
The festival was created based on the opinions and participation of Nowon-gu youth from the initial planning stage to promotion and operation, through collaboration among four youth training facilities: Gongneung Youth Culture Information Center, Nowon Youth Center, Nowon Youth Vocational Experience Center, and Sanggye Youth Culture House, as well as the youth culture planning group ‘Cheongchi’ (Youth’s Taste Sniper).
This Ontact-style youth festival is designed so that anyone can safely and easily enjoy it amid COVID-19.
There are three main contents: ‘Nochul Rider,’ a popular online game KartRider competition; ‘Do You Know the Taste of Singing?’ a non-face-to-face singing contest; and ‘Relay No-Dance-Chuls,’ a relay dance battle. Detailed schedules and information about the programs can be found on the Facebook and Instagram pages of the youth culture planning group ‘Cheongchi.’
The opening ceremony will be held on the 18th at 10 p.m. via Facebook, Instagram, and the participating organizations’ websites, featuring the festival intro and congratulatory videos.
First, the e-sports competition ‘Nochul Ride’ will take place on the 21st from 1 p.m., with 16 individual players and 4 teams competing to showcase their skills.
The Ontact singing contest ‘Do You Know the Taste of Singing?’ will upload participant videos on Facebook and Instagram for 7 days starting from the 21st, and winners will be selected through voting. The relay dance battle ‘Relay No-Dance-Chuls’ will also allow voting on videos released for 6 days from the 21st, with winners announced on the 28th.
Last year’s 1st Nowon-gu Youth Festival ‘Nochul’ was held successfully with about 5,000 youth participating in booth operations (66 teams in total) and a second part youth performance (24 teams in total) at the Nowon-gu Office underground parking lot, 2nd-floor auditorium, and mayor’s office, all under the concept of ‘retro.’ It achieved great results in creating a new youth culture in Nowon-gu and fostering positive perceptions of the local area among youth.
The heads of the four youth training facilities collaborating on the festival unanimously said, “We adopted and conducted the Ontact method to ensure the safety and participation of youth and parents who might feel uneasy about face-to-face festivals due to COVID-19, striving to create a good example that guarantees both safety and participation in the post-COVID era.”
Oh Seung-rok, mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Since this festival is made and run by youth, I hope it will be a good opportunity for young people tired of their studies to relieve stress,” and added, “We will do our best to help the youth, the future leaders, spend a healthy and bright adolescence.”
