Yongsan-gu to Host 2-Week Online Future Education Festival from 16th to 29th... Offering Various Programs Including Career, Science, and Creativity Experiences for Local Elementary, Middle, and High School Students
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) will hold an online Yongsan Future Education Festival for two weeks from the 16th to the 29th.
The event aims to share the achievements of the district’s Innovative Education Zone project and provide various opportunities for youth to experience innovative education, career exploration, and science.
The event is named "Dream to Dream (DREAM)".
The event is organized by the district, Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Jungbu Support Office, and Yongsan-gu Career Experience Support Center. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the event is conducted through non-face-to-face programs.
The participants are elementary, middle, and high school students in the area. The programs are composed of ▲ Career Experience Playground with the Community ▲ Play to Find the Real Me ▲ Let’s Play with College Student Mentors ▲ Let’s Play at Yongsan Playground, among others.
First, the "Career Experience Playground" is an interactive program using teaching aids with themes for each field. About 20 diverse programs are prepared in areas such as innovative education (9), career and jobs (5), and science experience (6).
At the beginning of this month, the district received advance applications from schools and completed the distribution of teaching aids. Once the district uploads educational program videos in advance, participants can experience them online during the event period.
"Play to Find the Real Me" recruited applicants in advance and conducted personality (MBTI) and career tests. During the event, participants can receive real-time online counseling regarding their test results.
Vivid stories told by college students majoring in relevant fields are also prepared. "Let’s Play with Mentors" features students from departments popular among youth who will conduct real-time counseling 11 times during the event. Using KakaoTalk open chat rooms, participants can easily ask questions and get answers.
Finally, the district uses its SNS to increase student participation. By subscribing to the Yongsan Innovative Education Zone YouTube channel and participating in surveys, 60 people will be selected by lottery to receive mobile gift certificates.
A district official said, “Despite holding the event online due to COVID-19, the response from youth has been very enthusiastic,” adding, “Including advance applications and real-time participants, more than 3,000 people are expected to take part.”
The district was first designated as a "Seoul-type Innovative Education Zone" in 2017. It is currently promoting 14 projects in four major areas: "Public-Private-Academic Governance Operation," "Operation of Curriculum with the Community," "Strengthening Support Systems for Learning and Rest through Community Activities," and "Enhancement of Children and Youth Autonomous Activities."
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Through the Future Education Festival, we will be able to provide youth with opportunities to experience new programs,” and added, “We hope many interested students will participate.”
