[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is creating and operating an underground passage idle space as a cultural creation space for youth called the ‘Meet up Center.’

The ‘Meet up Center,’ with a total project cost of 500 million KRW and a total floor area of 612㎡, utilizes the previously neglected underground passage next to the Wolgye 2-dong Post Office. It takes advantage of the characteristics of the underground space and carries the meaning of ‘meeting from below and growing together.’

The interior facilities consist of four spaces: ▲ SangsangUP ▲ FunnyUP ▲ BeautyUP ▲ CommunicationUP.

First, the ‘SangsangUP’ space is a place where youth can express their unlimited talents. It is equipped with a one-person media room, band practice room, dance room, and mini theater. The one-person media room, designed for youth aspiring to be creators, is a space where various video editing and YouTube filming are possible. The band practice room, equipped with instruments such as keyboards and drums, the dance room for expressing talent and passion, and the mini theater with 20 seats operate by prior reservation.

The ‘FunnyUP’ space is a play area for comfortable rest. It is set up as a book caf? where visitors can enjoy comic books of various genres and beverages.

The usage time is three hours, with a fee of 1,000 KRW for youth and 2,000 KRW for adults. Additionally, the ‘BeautyUP’ space, for youth interested in appearance, is equipped with photo props, a powder room, an instant photo booth, and a coin karaoke machine.

There is also a community space available for various small groups, clubs, and study sessions. It operates by prior reservation, with usage fees of 1,000 KRW for youth and 2,000 KRW for adults.

The center’s operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. It is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and public holidays.

For more detailed information such as reservations, please refer to the ‘Meet up Center’ blog or contact the Meet up Center by phone.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held at the center at 4 p.m. on the 13th.

The center plans to operate as an open space enjoyed not only by youth but also by local residents. To this end, in addition to youth activity projects such as youth clubs and school-linked programs, various community projects such as village hideouts, village clubs, and village cinemas are being prepared.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “It is very meaningful and pleasing that a youth cultural space has been established for the first time in the Wolgye-dong area,” adding, “We will spare no support so that the space can be a place where youth can unfold their dreams and hopes, as well as provide various cultural benefits to local residents.”
