'DMZ Peace Road' Paju Section to Resume Operation on 28th... 10 People per Session People participating in the Peace Nuri Trail walking event are walking along the DMZ trail.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The government announced on the 11th that it will resume the Paju section of the DMZ Peace Trail, which had been suspended since September 19 last year to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF), starting from the 28th.

Citizens wishing to participate can apply by selecting their desired visit date on the Korea Tourism Organization's DMZ Peace Trail website (www.dmzwalk.com) or the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'DMZgi' website (www.dmz.go.kr) starting from the 13th. Final participants will be selected through a lottery, and applications can include up to four accompanying persons. The selection results will be announced on the websites and notified to participants via mobile text messages.

Before reopening the Paju section, the government installed wild boar exclusion fences, vehicle and personal disinfection equipment, and footbath disinfectant tanks to prevent ASF, and completed joint inspections with related ministries.

To prevent and control the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the operation scale will be reduced from 20 to 10 people per session. Participants will be required to follow safety travel guidelines such as wearing masks and maintaining a 2-meter distance during the trip.

Starting with the reopening of the Paju section, the Gangwon Goseong and Cheorwon sections will also be sequentially reopened in early 2021 after completing ASF quarantine measures and joint inspections.

Before being suspended due to African Swine Fever, approximately 15,000 citizens had visited the DMZ Peace Trail sections in Goseong, Cheorwon, and Paju, which were opened last year.
