[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] A complex innovation center will open in 2022 in Jinju, Gyeongnam, to improve residential conditions and revitalize the innovation cluster.
Gyeongsangnam-do held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 10th at the site of the complex innovation center to be built in Chungmugong-dong, Jinju-si.
About 100 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including Kim Kyung-soo, Governor of Gyeongnam, Cho Gyu-il, Mayor of Jinju, Shin Yong-sik, Director of the Innovation City Development Promotion Division of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, heads of relocated public institutions, and residents.
The complex innovation center will receive a total investment of 24 billion KRW, including 9.9 billion KRW in national funds. It will have a total floor area of 9,005㎡, with one basement floor and four above-ground floors, consisting of infrastructure including childcare facilities, cultural facilities, exhibition facilities, and support facilities for startup companies such as office spaces for startups and social enterprises.
It will include childcare facilities such as daycare centers for infants and toddlers and group care, as well as multipurpose rooms, research labs, and business centers for the Innovation City Development Foundation, startup incubation, and corporate support.
From basic to detailed design, public architects will participate to make it a landmark of the innovation city. It will also serve as a control tower for the comprehensive development of the innovation city, including core tasks of Innovation City Season 2 and the operation of the complex innovation center.
Governor Kim Kyung-soo said, “We will actively support industrial development through Innovation City Season 2 and the Small Giant Special Zone so that Jinju can become the central city and key hub city of the southern central region.”
Mayor Cho Gyu-il of Jinju said, “The construction of the complex innovation center is expected to be a driving force for Innovation City Season 2, which can promote improved residential conditions and win-win development with the old downtown in Jinju Innovation City,” adding, “We will cooperate with Gyeongnam Province and relocated public institutions to implement various policies for revitalizing the innovation city.”
Meanwhile, the province is promoting various regional development projects with relocated public institutions, such as building a complex cultural library, supporting the operation of small libraries, and supporting the Gyeongnam Mecenat Matching Fund. Since May, a 'Research Service for Discovering Regional Development Projects Linked to Relocated Public Institutions' has been underway to discover customized regional development projects and promote win-win development.
