"Enjoy the Latest Xbox for 30,000 KRW per Month" SKT-MS Launch Subscription Service

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] A subscription-based game product combining the new Xbox console and ‘5GX Cloud Gaming’ has been launched for the first time in Korea.

SK Telecom and Microsoft (MS) announced on the 10th that they will start subscriptions for ‘Xbox All Access,’ which allows users to play over 100 games provided by Xbox on the new console, PC, and 5GX Cloud Gaming for 24 months. Xbox All Access is being launched simultaneously in 12 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, with SK Telecom being the only provider in Asia.

Accordingly, by paying a monthly fee for 24 months, users can enjoy both ▲the next-generation new Xbox consoles ‘Xbox Series X/S’ and ▲SK Telecom’s ‘5GX Cloud Gaming,’ which offers over 100 games on consoles, PCs, and the cloud.

The service is divided into two types according to the console specifications: the X and S series, with monthly subscription fees of 39,900 KRW and 29,900 KRW respectively. The console becomes the customer’s property after the subscription period ends. If a user cancels the subscription early, they can own the console by paying the remaining cost in a lump sum.

Xbox All Access can be applied for through the online website (www.5gxcloudgame.com). Currently, the service is available only to SK Telecom customers, but it is planned to be expanded to customers of other companies after 2021.

In addition, starting from the 10th, Xbox is providing EA Play at no additional cost through Game Pass Ultimate. Users can enjoy over 60 popular EA console and PC games such as FIFA 20, Titanfall 2, and Need for Speed Heat. Besides the existing 100+ games, 5GX Cloud Gaming has added domestic developer PUBG’s ‘Battlegrounds,’ ‘Forza Motorsport 7,’ and ‘Rainbow Six Siege.’ The number of games playable without a controller has also increased to 10.

Jeon Jin-soo, Head of SK Telecom’s 5GX Service Business Division, said, “We expect more users to experience SKT 5GX Cloud Gaming through Xbox All Access and to broaden the base of game users,” adding, “SK Telecom plans to continue diversifying subscription-based game products.”
