Automotive Industry Races to Secure Autonomous Driving Technology... ADAS Expert Recruitment Competition

Hyundai Mobis, Mando, Hyundai Autron and Other Parts and IT Companies Hiring Experienced Professionals for the Second Half of the Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] The competition to recruit talent in advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) is intensifying among the automotive industry to dominate the autonomous driving market. The strategy is to secure developers in the ADAS field, which forms the foundation of autonomous driving, ranging from LiDAR and radar sensor software to various algorithms and electronic control devices, to prepare future growth engines.

According to the industry on the 9th, major domestic automotive parts companies such as Hyundai Mobis, Mando, and Hyundai Autron are simultaneously conducting their second half experienced recruitment processes and are actively recruiting talent in the ADAS field.

The first to start the recruitment process was Hyundai Mobis, the number one domestic automotive parts company. Mobis is recruiting experienced professionals in ADAS-related roles such as LiDAR sensor software (SW), radar and image algorithms, and electronic control SW developers. It is known that they have conducted double-digit hires this year in the electronic components business division alone. Mobis plans to continuously increase the scale of development recruitment in the electronic components division to transform into a core parts company centered on software.

Mando, an automotive parts company affiliated with the Halla Group, has also aggressively pursued ADAS talent recruitment. Mando is expected to conduct double-digit hires numbering in the dozens in this second half recruitment. The recruitment fields include LiDAR hardware and software development, LiDAR antenna and mechanical development, ADAS and autonomous driving perception sensor development, and integrated control system (DCU) development roles.

It is noteworthy that Mando, which has been downsizing by consecutively implementing executive restructuring since its establishment last year and voluntary retirement of production workers in March this year, is actively increasing personnel in the ADAS electronic components business division. This move is interpreted as reflecting a sense of crisis that future revenue sources must be secured by leading autonomous driving technology. Recently, Mando has been shifting its portfolio by reducing the proportion of existing business areas such as brakes, steering, and suspension, and increasing the ADAS business.

In addition, Hyundai Autron, a vehicle electronic control specialist affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, and Code42, an autonomous driving startup invested in by Hyundai Motor Group, are continuously recruiting experts in the ADAS field. Hyundai Autron is recruiting vehicle system semiconductor experts and ADAS and autonomous driving developers, while Code42 keeps open the possibility of hiring roles such as autonomous driving function quality evaluation engineers and machine learning algorithm developers.

An industry official said, "As vehicles become more advanced, it has become necessary to compose a level of specialized software personnel comparable to the IT industry to secure future vehicle capabilities," adding, "Especially, as the competition among parts companies to secure excellent IT talent in the autonomous vehicle field intensifies, the value of related personnel is expected to rise."
