Seoul City Hosts '4.19 Urban Regeneration Business Cases and Strategies' Seminar


[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 9th that it will hold a seminar titled ‘Community Business Cases and Strategies for Sustainable 4.19 Urban Regeneration’ on the 11th.


This event is a seminar held in the urban regeneration revitalization area around the 4.19 Intersection, focusing on community business cases and strategies of cooperatives and village enterprises. It is co-hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Gangbuk-gu, and jointly organized by the 4.19 Urban Regeneration Field Support Center, the Korean Urban Design Association, the Urban Policy Association, and the Urban Regeneration Association.


To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the event will be held online in a non-face-to-face format. You can watch it by searching ‘4.19 Urban Regeneration TV’ on YouTube or by entering the site address in the search bar.


This seminar is designed to explore ways to build a virtuous cycle community where village enterprises, the main agents of the 4.19 urban regeneration project, generate profits using local resources and reinvest part of the profits back into the community to promote vitality.


In the first part of the seminar, Jang Sang-gi, CEO of the Local Tourism Content Group Mijiro, will present on ‘Resident-led Community Business Cases and Development Strategies Using Local Content.’ Park Min-gang, CEO of Seoul-type Urban Regeneration CRC, will speak on ‘Cultural Urban Regeneration Community with Residents.’ Park Tae-won, professor of Urban Planning and Real Estate at Kwangwoon University and director of the 4.19 Urban Regeneration Support Center, will present on ‘Current Status and Development Plans for 4.19 Urban Regeneration Community Business.’


In the second part, Professor Yang Seung-woo of the University of Seoul will chair the discussion, with experts including Professor Baek Seong-jun of Hansung University, Professor Lee Ki-ho of Hanshin University, and Lim Hyun-jin, director of the Yeongdeungpo and Gyeongin-ro Urban Regeneration Support Center, participating. Additionally, Shin Han-gyu, CEO of the cooperative Uidong Culture Consort, and Lee Young-jun, representative of the preparatory group for the cooperative Uri Ui, who are participating in the urban regeneration village enterprises through the 4.19 urban regeneration project, will join the discussion as local village enterprise representatives to discuss community business strategies.


Seo No-won, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Regional Development Headquarters, said, “The seminar is a valuable opportunity to recognize the importance of fostering village enterprises led by residents and regional coexistence, and to share regional values.” He added, “We plan to actively discover village enterprise agents who can secure competitiveness as a northeastern area hub for history, culture, arts, and leisure, so that the 4.19 Intersection area can be revitalized as a local community through residents’ participation.”
