[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] New York City, which had been silent since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), has transformed into a frenzy of excitement. Those tired of Trump's four years seemed to release their pent-up frustration by shouting 'USA,' expressing hope for a new America.

On the 7th (local time), New York City streets turned into outdoor 'rock cafes' after news confirmed the election of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Citizens, who had been refraining from going out due to the spread of COVID-19, rushed to the streets all at once, shouting Trump's catchphrase "You're fired," and celebrated the joy of America returning to its normal course.

In the evening, Washington Square Garden in Manhattan was overflowing with citizens who could not hide their joy. They sang and danced excitedly, shoulder to shoulder, waving their hands and shouting "Trump out." Young people jumped into the fountain pond, and a girl who came with her parents silently participated in the adults' celebration holding a sign that read "You're fired."

The streets were filled with vehicles honking horns and waving flags. Many held rainbow flags alongside the Stars and Stripes.

Many also carried unique symbols celebrating Trump's defeat and Biden's victory. A white youth named Jack roamed the park holding a sign that read "Buy Don," made from Biden's election poster. Jack said, "Now America is back on track," expressing his joy.

The park gathered not only many white people but also a significant number of Black, Latino, and Indian residents. An elderly Black man watching the young people jump into the fountain smiled without stopping, saying, "I'm so happy."

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio also joined the citizens celebrating Biden's victory at Washington Square Park that afternoon.

Citizens gathered at Times Square welcomed those who achieved the election victory as triumphant generals. Vehicles passing by the roads on both sides of Times Square honked continuously toward the crowds filling the sidewalks. Pedestrians responded with applause and cheers.

Many citizens came here holding the Stars and Stripes with their children, commemorating the joyful scene. Although it was unclear if they understood the reason, children sitting in the back seats of cars also shared the joy with the adults.

So many citizens poured into the streets that the police blocked vehicle traffic on two lanes adjacent to both sidewalks and opened them to the public.

One citizen attracted attention by wearing a mask of President Trump's face and a prison uniform. This citizen shared the joy of election victory by mimicking the dance Trump performed to the campaign song "YMCA."

The giant billboards illuminating Times Square also displayed photos of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, creating a festive atmosphere.

There was one place in New York City where no celebration took place that day: in front of the Trump Hotel and Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue, owned by President Trump. This area remained like the "eye of the storm," with vehicle traffic restricted.

Once a place of tears with Trump's "surprise victory" four years ago, this location was now becoming the starting point for bidding farewell to Trump.
