[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] The Institute for Basic Science (IBS) announced on the 6th that it has appointed Ha Seongdo, Principal Researcher at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), as its Vice President, with his term starting on the 9th.
IBS established the Vice President position in May. After a candidate recommendation process involving related science and technology institutions and the Vice President Recommendation Committee, the new Vice President was appointed. The Vice President assists the President in overseeing research group support and institutional management, with a term of two years.
Vice President Ha graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, earned a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and obtained a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. He subsequently served as Director of the CAD/CAM Research Center, Head of the Intelligent Systems Research Division, Director of the Technology Business Division, Director of the Technology Policy Research Institute, Head of the Research Planning and Coordination Division, Director of the Convergence Research Policy Center, and Director of the Gangneung Branch at KIST.
President Noh Doyoung said, "Vice President Ha Seongdo is a talented individual who has accumulated experience in research, technology commercialization, business planning and coordination, and policy formulation during his 27 years at KIST," adding, "We expect him to perform his duties as IBS Vice President well, based on his profound insight and extensive experience."
Vice President Ha stated, "As Vice President, I will do my best to contribute to making IBS a world-class basic research institution, enhancing our country's prestige and raising public awareness of the importance of basic science."
