[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Dong-A ST announced on the 5th that it held a commemorative event for the creation of the Korean Peninsula 'Forest of Peace' at the DMZ Peace Culture Plaza in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province.
The Forest of Peace creation project was established to restore the nature of the border area damaged by conflict and disputes and to build an ecosystem where nature and humans can coexist harmoniously.
The area where the Forest of Peace was created is a vacant land of about 10,000㎡ within the Cheorwon Peace Culture Plaza near Woljeong-ri Station on the Gyeongwon Line, famous for the phrase "Cheolma wants to run." From the 25th of last month to the 3rd of this month, a total of about 3,000 trees, including pine, elm, and azalea, which are most suitable for the local climate and soil, were planted in the Forest of Peace.
The Forest of Peace created this time can reduce about 350 tons of carbon dioxide over the next 30 years based on the carbon absorption operation standards of the Forest Carbon Center.
Dong-A ST plans to collaborate with Cheorwon County to develop the Forest of Peace into a space for ecological, historical, and security education for students and tourists.
A Dong-A ST official said, "The Forest of Peace is meaningful not only for natural restoration but also for contributing to peace on the Korean Peninsula and globally," adding, "We will do our best to create various social values and engage in nature conservation activities going forward."
