[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 3rd that it opened a 'multipurpose cultural space' on the 2nd for local residents visiting the Dong-gu Disabled Welfare Center.
About 50 people, including Dong-gu Mayor Im Taek, Kim Byung-gyu, CEO of the Dong-gu Happiness Foundation, Dong-gu Council members, and local residents, attended the opening ceremony that day.
The cultural space created within the Dong-gu Disabled Welfare Center was named 'Donghaeng420.' The number '420' signifies April 20th, the Day of Persons with Disabilities, and represents a cultural space where not only disabled users of the welfare center but also local residents can come together and communicate.
This space has a total floor area of 115.19㎡ (34.9 pyeong) and is expected to establish itself as a place of harmony and communication where welfare center users and neighboring residents can gather for ▲humanities and cultural lectures ▲art and craft exhibitions ▲local residents' self-help meetings, among other activities.
In particular, the walls of the cultural space will permanently display artworks, photographs, and crafts by local artists and club members, providing new attractions to many local people using Pureungil Park. Plans also include hosting small concerts and meetings with local artists, offering various opportunities to enjoy culture in daily life.
Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, “I hope the newly created cultural space at the Dong-gu Disabled Welfare Center will become a place where persons with disabilities and the general public can 'walk together.' I look forward to it becoming a warm space where all residents can gather and enjoy culture and leisure activities together.”
