[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon National University announced on the 3rd that three educational research teams were finally selected in the 4th phase of BK21 (Brain Korea 21), a large-scale government project by the Ministry of Education supporting master's and doctoral level talents.
The 'Global Blue Carbon Talent Training Educational Research Team' from the Department of Oceanography, the 'AI and Digital Platform-based Cross-border International Logistics/Distribution Leader Training Project Team' from the Graduate School of Northeast Asian Logistics, and the 'Human-centered Intelligent Architectural Technology Educational Research Team' from the Department of Architecture were selected, securing 3.6 billion KRW in national funding over seven years.
This project, promoted by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, is a follow-up to the 3rd phase BK21 Plus project. It supports graduate student research scholarships and salaries for early-career researchers to foster about 19,000 master's and doctoral level researchers annually, allowing them to focus on their studies and research.
Graduate students in the selected project teams receive monthly support of 700,000 KRW for master's students, 1,300,000 KRW for doctoral students, and 3,000,000 KRW for early-career researchers.
A total of 695 educational research groups and 364 educational research teams from 93 universities applied for the 4th phase BK21 project. Among them, 386 educational research groups and 176 educational research teams from 68 universities were preliminarily selected, and after on-site inspections, the final selection results were announced at the end of last month.
Ok Wooseok, Director of Research at Incheon National University, said, "Based on the achievements of establishing a research system rooted in the local community and specializing in research since the launch of the corporate university, we challenged this BK21 project and achieved good results. We will do our best to proactively respond to social changes, build platforms for regional innovation, and nurture talents who contribute to the nation."
