The Longest-Used App by Koreans is 'YouTube'... KakaoTalk Ranks 2nd


[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] The smartphone app used the longest by Koreans was found to be YouTube.


According to app analysis service WiseApp on the 3rd, a sample survey of Korean Android smartphone users aged 10 and above conducted over the past September showed that YouTube was the app used the longest across all generations. A total of 33.77 million people used it for 53.1 billion minutes.


YouTube usage time increased by 20% compared to the previous year. In September last year, 33.34 million people used it for 44.3 billion minutes.


The app used the second longest was 'KakaoTalk.' Usage time increased by 5%, from 21.4 billion minutes in September last year to 22.5 billion minutes this September.


The third longest used app was 'Naver.' Usage time increased by 8%, from 15.9 billion minutes last September to 17.2 billion minutes this September.


Following were Instagram, Facebook, Naver Webtoon, KakaoPage, TikTok, and Netflix in order.


Among the top 10 apps with the highest usage time, Netflix showed the largest increase in usage time compared to the previous year. Netflix usage time increased by 159%, TikTok by 150%, Instagram by 35%, and YouTube by 20%.


WiseApp stated that due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), most of the major top-ranking app services saw increased usage time compared to last year.


Meanwhile, the above survey was conducted by WiseApp through a sample survey of 60,000 Android smartphone users nationwide over the past month.
