[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Comedian Park Jisun was found dead with her mother at her home in Mapo-gu on the afternoon of the 2nd, shocking many. The late comedian was known to the public through her activities in various fields such as comedy programs, events, and broadcasting hosting.
Born in Incheon and majoring in Korean Language Education in the Department of Education at Korea University, she debuted in March 2007 as a KBS 22nd public recruitment comedian. She appeared on KBS's "Gag Concert," creating various catchphrases such as "Cham swipjyoing?" and made a significant impact. In the year of her debut, she also won the Female Rookie Award in the comedy category at the KBS Entertainment Awards.
Starting with the Rookie Award, she solidified her position as a successful female comedian by winning the Excellence Award in 2008 and the Top Excellence Award in 2010. In 2012, she also received the Radio DJ Award in the Love FM category at the SBS Entertainment Awards.
She challenged herself not only in comedy but also in acting and broadcasting hosting. In 2011, she appeared as an English teacher in the MBC sitcom "High Kick: Revenge of Short Legs." With her witty speaking skills, she also hosted events such as singer showcases and drama press conferences.
In addition, she won the quiz show "1 vs. 100" on KBS 2TV in 2009 and showcased high-level singing skills on MBC TV's "King of Mask Singer," demonstrating her diverse talents.
Meanwhile, it was reported that she had suffered from skin conditions such as sun allergy since childhood, causing her difficulties. Due to sensitive skin, she was unable to wear cosmetics and reportedly had trouble with outdoor activities. Recently, her condition worsened to the point where she experienced distress from stage lighting during events.
Regarding this, in a 2012 interview with the media outlet "Hankyoreh," she expressed her struggles, saying, "After becoming a comedian, I couldn't keep hiding (the allergy). If I don't wear makeup, I look lazy and careless." She added, "If I had another job, I wouldn't have faced such barriers, but since I entered a field that requires makeup, I guess I am unique."
According to the police, she was found dead with her mother at her home in Mapo-gu at around 1:44 p.m. on the 2nd. She had been undergoing treatment for her chronic illness, and her mother had come to Seoul to live with her. The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the death.
Colleagues and netizens expressed their condolences upon hearing the news of her passing. On the same day, comedian Kim Wonhyo posted on his social network service (SNS), "I hoped it wouldn't be true, but please pray for our Jisun. Rest in peace."
Netizens also posted messages of mourning such as "Rest in peace," "I cried as soon as I heard the news," and "Thank you for all the laughter you gave us."
