Building an 'Artificial Intelligence Fashion Platform' for Smart Fashion Services

Dongseo University LINC+ Project Group and Samatdi Co., Ltd. Conduct AI Technology Fashion Industry Convergence Project

Building an 'Artificial Intelligence Fashion Platform' for Smart Fashion Services Dongseo University Link Plus Project Group and AI company 'Samadi' have established an AI-based fashion platform through industry-academia cooperation.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Dongseo University Industry-Academic Cooperation Leading University (LINC+) Development Project Group has established an AI-based fashion platform in collaboration with AI company Samatdi Co., Ltd.

This industry-academic cooperation system was demonstrated at the PaePae Busan 2020 Textile Fashion Exhibition held at BEXCO, Busan, from October 31 to November 1.

This project was realized through joint industry-academic research between AI company Samatdi Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Jong-hyuk) and Dongseo University LINC+ Project Group (Director Cho Dae-su), as well as through the Class Selling course.

Samatdi is a startup company building a new AI-based fashion platform. Based on this project, they plan to launch a service aimed at promoting consumers' smart fashion lifestyles using AI technology that recognizes quantified fashion sensibility.

Both parties plan to release various services focusing on the aspects of ▲choose (product selection) ▲buy (rational purchase) ▲cody (optimal coordination) ▲create (creating my own style).

The joint industry-academic research of Dongseo University LINC+ Project Group involves technology development for projects that can be commercialized using technologies possessed by professors or family companies. This joint research is the result of combining Samatdi’s AI technology with Dongseo University’s design expertise.

Additionally, the Class Selling course, a “custom order sales class,” is a problem-solving subject that produces deliverables requested by companies. Through this course, companies receive innovative results, and students benefit from scholarships, forming a model of industry-academic cooperation. The platform development was carried out by 11 fourth-year students from the Department of Fashion Design over the first and second semesters of 2020.

Some of the students participating in this joint industry-academic project have been given opportunities to work as interns at Samatdi Co., Ltd., providing them with diverse career options.

Professor Kim Hyung-sook of Dongseo University, who planned the project, said, “We will explore ways to help the local fashion companies and small business owners, which are currently stagnant, by utilizing the AI-based fashion platform we have built. I hope the students who participated in the project learn practical, real-world knowledge connected to their work and grow into talents suited for the times with a convergent perspective.”

Lee Jong-hyuk, CEO of Samatdi, said, “We will create good business models through continuous industry-academic cooperation with Dongseo University LINC+ Project Group. We also hope the students who participated in the development will experience the service firsthand once it is launched and enjoy a smart fashion lifestyle.”

Cho Dae-su, Director of Dongseo University LINC+ Project Group, said, “This project is a good example of industry-academic cooperation where companies, professors, and students jointly produced results by utilizing various programs of the LINC+ Project Group targeting family companies. We will realize innovative education by integrating the university’s specialized field of design with various technologies such as AI, VR/AR, and IoT to create an education system suited for the times.”
