[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] As prosecutors continue to 'come out' in criticism of Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae, a Blue House petition demanding the resignation of the related prosecutors has garnered about 149,000 supporters in just two days.
On the 30th of last month, a petition titled "Accept the Resignations of the Coming-Out Prosecutors!" was posted on the Blue House petition board.
The petitioner criticized, "The politician-general is ruining the prosecution by covering it with politics," adding, "The political prosecution, which should be reflecting and restraining itself, has now openly started engaging in politics."
They further claimed, "During the inspection, visiting Daejeon to engage in politics, the political prosecutors who follow him are using the media to obstruct prosecution reform."
They raised their voice, saying, "Please accept the resignations of the prosecutors who are coming out for the politician-general without any voice of self-reflection." They also stated, "The start of prosecution reform begins with accepting the resignations of the coming-out prosecutors."
Finally, the petitioner emphasized, "The starting point for clearing out deep-rooted evils in the Republic of Korea! Let's proceed with prosecution reform!!" As of the 1st, the petition has received 149,188 endorsements.
Earlier, Lee Hwan-woo (43, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 39), a prosecutor at Jeju District Prosecutors' Office, criticized Minister Choo, saying, "I feel that the authority over personnel, command, and inspection is being abused without hiding its purpose and intentions." Minister Choo targeted this prosecutor on her Facebook, saying, "Good. If you come out like this, reform is the only answer."
In response, Choi Jae-man (47, class 36), a prosecutor at Chuncheon District Prosecutors' Office, stated on the prosecution's internal network 'Eprose,' "I also think, like Prosecutor Lee Hwan-woo, that the current situation where politics intentionally covers the prosecution leaves a bad precedent in our judicial history, so I will also come out."
Since then, more than 230 prosecutors have consecutively posted supportive comments on Prosecutor Choi's post, saying "I also come out," and criticized Minister Choo's 'targeting' and other actions.
