Gyeongbuk Province Completes Seongju History Theme Park with 9.6 Billion Won Investment... "A Healing Space Embracing Historical Heritage"

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do held a completion ceremony on the 31st for the 'Seongju History Theme Park,' which recreates Seongjusa Archive and Seongju Eupseong Fortress, representative historical sites of Seongju County.

The ceremony was attended by 200 people, including Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Seongju County Mayor Lee Byung-hwan, National Assemblyman Jeong Hee-yong, and Provincial Assembly members Lee Soo-kyung and Jeong Young-gil. The event proceeded in the order of a pre-ceremony ritual called Jisinbalgi, congratulatory performances, progress reports, and an unveiling ceremony.

The Seongju History Theme Park project, which began in 2017, involved a total budget of 9.6 billion KRW to recreate Seongjusa Archive, one of the four major archives of the early Joseon Dynasty, the traditional Joseon-era pond Ssangdojeong, and to refurbish Seongju Eupseong Fortress. The budget was covered by 3.8 billion KRW from the national government, 500 million KRW from the provincial government, and 5.3 billion KRW from the county government.

The Seongju History Theme Park is expected to greatly contribute to the local economy through synergy effects by linking with nearby tourist attractions such as the Shimsan Culture Theme Park, which is under construction with a completion target of the end of December 2022, the Gayasan Wild Plant Garden, and the Gayasan History and Mythology Theme Hall.

In addition to the Seongju History Theme Park, Gyeongbuk Province is enhancing its tourism competitiveness with regionally distinctive tourist facilities such as the Gyesangnyeong Jangwon Geupje-gil in Gimcheon, Seobu-ri Art Village in Andong, Binggye Ice Valley Camping Site in Uiseong, Chilgok Patriotic Culture Experience Theme Park, and the Ulleung Usanguk Museum.

Governor Lee Cheol-woo, who attended the completion ceremony, emphasized, "Tourism in the post-COVID era is shifting significantly towards domestic travel rather than overseas, and individual or family tourism rather than group tours, favoring clean and safe healing experiences. Gyeongbuk, endowed with the pristine natural environment of the Baekdudaegan forest, the clear waters of the Nakdong River, and the clean sea of the East Sea, is the optimal destination for non-face-to-face clean and healing travel."
