COVID-19 Cases Remain in the 100s for 5 Days... [Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Due to the impact of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) cluster outbreak, the number of new confirmed cases has remained in the triple digits for five consecutive days.


According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 1st, as of midnight on the 1st, the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases was recorded at 124. There were 101 local cases and 23 imported cases. The cumulative number of confirmed cases is 26,635.


The number of new confirmed cases has been in the triple digits for five consecutive days since the 28th of last month. The number of confirmed cases over the past four days was ▲October 28: 103 ▲29: 125 ▲30: 113 ▲31: 127.


Although the number dropped to the 40s last month, cluster infections have continued in medical institutions, nursing facilities, gatherings of acquaintances, workplaces, and saunas, causing the number to rise back to triple digits.


Looking at the distribution of confirmed cases by region on the 1st, Seoul had 45 cases, Gyeonggi 36 cases, totaling 81 cases in the metropolitan area. Outside the metropolitan area, there were 9 cases in Chungnam, 3 each in Gangwon and Jeonnam, 2 each in Daegu and Gyeongnam, and 1 in Chungbuk.


As of noon the previous day, 8 people were confirmed at a nursing facility for the elderly in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, and 9 people tested positive at a hospital in Songpa-gu. Additionally, 3 more cases were confirmed at the SRC Rehabilitation Hospital in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province.


Additional confirmed cases are also emerging related to Lucky Sauna in Gangnam-gu, Seoul (cumulative 33), visiting teachers in Eunpyeong-gu (16), Daegu Yesu Central Church in Seo-gu, Daegu (27), Bundang Middle School in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi (25), and a textile company in Yangju-si (28).


The number of imported confirmed cases was 23, down from 31 the previous day. Among the confirmed cases, 14 were identified during entry processes at airports and ports, and the remaining 9 tested positive while in self-quarantine in Incheon (4), Gwangju (3), and Gyeonggi (2).


The number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 2 from the previous day, totaling 466. The number of critically ill patients whose condition worsened due to COVID-19 decreased by 3 to 51. On the 31st, 6,138 COVID-19 diagnostic tests were conducted. The positivity rate, representing confirmed cases relative to the number of tests on the 31st, rose significantly to 2.02% from 1.04% on the 30th. The cumulative positivity rate as of midnight is 1.01%.
