[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] This year, a record-breaking number of 340,000 candidates registered for the Certified Real Estate Agent exam.
According to the Korea Industrial Human Resources Corporation on the 31st, the number of applicants for the 31st Certified Real Estate Agent exam held nationwide on this day was counted at 343,076. This figure is about 50,000 more than last year's 298,227, marking the highest level since the Certified Real Estate Agent system was introduced in 1983.
The number of applicants for the domestic Certified Real Estate Agent exam had been increasing until 2018, with 273,251 in 2016, 305,316 in 2017, and 322,577 in 2018, but dropped to around 290,000 last year.
This year's sharp increase in applicants, breaking the record for the largest number ever, appears to be partly influenced by instability in the real estate market. The largest age group among applicants was those in their 40s, followed by those in their 30s.
As of 4 p.m. on the day, the actual number of test takers was 227,186, with an attendance rate of approximately 66.2%. This exam was conducted with social distancing and temperature checks in place as preventive measures against the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
