[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The chairman of a local sports council in Jeonnam was arrested after causing public outrage by assaulting a county office executive and forcing him to write a letter of apology.
On the 31st, the Gangjin Police Station in Jeonnam announced that they had arrested A (57), the chairman of the Gangjin County Sports Council, on charges of special assault for assaulting a public official and coercing him to write a letter of apology.
A is accused of repeatedly kicking B, a grade 5 public official of Gangjin County Office, and hitting him on the head with a kitchen knife handle at the Gangjin County Sports Council office around 5 p.m. on the 21st.
It is known that A assaulted B because B arranged a dinner schedule with the county governor after a sports event without coordinating with him.
Police investigations confirmed that he also forced B, who was bleeding, to write a letter of apology.
The day after the incident, the Gangjin County Public Officials' Union issued a protest statement, saying, "The actions of the sports council chairman are a serious challenge to public worker laborers and the people," and urged, "The Korea Sports Council should take appropriate measures, and judicial authorities should conduct an arrest investigation."
Subsequently, A resigned from his position as chairman of the Gangjin Sports Council, and the Jeonnam Sports Council is separately reviewing internal disciplinary actions.
Kim Jaemu, chairman of the Jeonnam Sports Council, apologized for the incident and announced plans to conduct a survey on the actual conditions of city and county sports councils, expand sports human rights education, and establish the Jeonnam Sports Human Rights Center.
