[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] A mother in the UK caused the death of her daughter by neglecting her without sending her to a medical institution. The UK court sentenced the mother to prison.

According to the British media 'BBC,' the Edinburgh Court in Scotland, UK, on the 29th (local time), sentenced Sharon Goldie to 3 years and 6 months in prison in the trial where she was charged with intentional abuse under the Children and Young Persons Act and negligent homicide. However, considering Goldie's history of brain damage, she was acquitted of the negligent homicide charge.

The court explained the sentencing reason, saying, "Sharon showed quite cruel behavior for a long time," and "She neglected and abandoned her daughter terribly over a long period. She had enough money to provide food but spent it only on marijuana and alcohol."

Goldie was accused of deliberately abusing and neglecting her daughter Robin for about a year from July 2017 to July 2018. Goldie did not provide her daughter with necessities such as food, clothing, and heating, assaulted her, and made her smoke marijuana and drink alcohol.

She also left Robin in an unsanitary living environment, neglecting to clean cat excrement.

Robin's health deteriorated, and on July 24, 2018, her whole body suddenly trembled and her skin turned pale. Robin pleaded with her mother to "call an ambulance," but Sharon refused her daughter's request.

Robin ran to a neighbor's house to ask for an ambulance, but Sharon interfered again and took Robin back inside the house. Afterwards, Sharon gave Robin only painkillers and went to a pub to have fun, and eventually, Robin died lying on the sofa inside the house.

The autopsy revealed that Robin's cause of death was peritonitis. There was also a perforation in the duodenum.
