High Pathogenic AI Outbreak in the Netherlands... Import Ban on Chickens, Ducks, etc. from the 30th

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that it will ban the import of Dutch poultry meat, including chicken and duck, starting from the 30th due to the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the Netherlands.

This import ban follows the announcement made on the 29th by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture that HPAI (H5 type) was confirmed at a broiler farm located in the southeastern province of Gelderland, Netherlands.

The import ban applies to ▲ live poultry (including pet birds and wild birds) ▲ day-old poultry chicks ▲ hatching eggs and table eggs ▲ poultry meat such as chicken and duck, and other poultry products.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated that recently, HPAI was confirmed in wild birds in Bonggangcheon, Cheonan City, and Cheongmicheon, Yongin City, and with the increase of HPAI outbreaks in neighboring countries such as China and Taiwan, as well as in Europe, it will continue to strengthen border quarantine measures against countries with HPAI outbreaks. The ministry also urged overseas travelers to refrain from visiting livestock facilities during their trips abroad and to cooperate by not illegally carrying livestock products into the country.

Furthermore, the ministry emphasized thorough implementation of basic quarantine rules such as pre-winter inspection of disinfection facilities for vehicles at poultry farms, insulation of livestock houses, hand washing, changing boots, wearing quarantine clothing inside farms, and prohibiting the introduction of external items.
