[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Choi Un-yeol, former member of the Democratic Party of Korea who has not hesitated to criticize the government and the Blue House on various national agendas, gave a special lecture on "Labor Reform" at the National Assembly on the 30th, invited by Yeouido Institute, the think tank of the People Power Party.

Choi, who is also a senior-junior colleague of Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party and a member of the "Seogang School," is bridging the ruling and opposition parties' discussions surrounding labor law amendments.

In his presentation, Choi emphasized, "To improve corporate governance, the Fair Trade 3 Laws must be amended; for a business-friendly environment, regulatory innovation is necessary; and to establish a fair wage system for equal work, labor reform must be implemented."

Choi particularly supported Chairman Kim Jong-in's opinion that "pro-labor unions and pro-labor should be distinguished" and that the Labor Relations Act, which was enacted 67 years ago, needs to be completely revised.

Chairman Kim also stated at a party event earlier that day, "As we move into the 4th industrial society, employment structures are changing in various forms, so it is time to review whether the law is appropriate for these changes."

This special lecture was reportedly realized when Choi readily accepted the proposal from Ji Sang-wook, director of the Yeouido Institute, with whom he worked together on the 20th National Assembly's Political Affairs Committee.
