Jeju Island Ranks '1st' for Two Consecutive Years in Youth-Friendly Governance Awards

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 30th that it will win the overall grand prize (1st place) for the second consecutive year at the '4th Korea Youth Day 2020 Youth-Friendly Legislative Award Ceremony.'

The award ceremony will be held on the 31st at the Peace Plaza in Olympic Park, Seoul.

The 'Youth-Friendly Legislative Award' was established in 2018 to select local governments and others who have worked hard to promote policies for a better life for youth and create a social environment, aiming to spread excellent cases.

The evaluation method involves a selection committee composed of experts (professors, accountants, etc.) and about 100 youth judges, who select awardees based on the youth-friendly index. Jeju Province was highly evaluated for establishing a dedicated youth department, building a youth policy control tower system, and contributing to laying the foundation for youth policies through the development of Jeju youth statistics.

Additionally, Jeju received high marks for expanding communication opportunities with youth and increasing policy participation by operating various youth participation organizations such as the Youth Policy Coordination Committee.

Jeju Province operates youth roundtable meetings, the Jeju Youth Center, and Youth Attic to encourage youth participation in policies.

Hyun Dae-sung, Director of the Planning and Coordination Office of the province, expressed his thoughts, saying, "I am pleased that Jeju's youth policies have been recognized for their value by winning the overall grand prize for two consecutive years, but I also feel a heavy sense of responsibility."
