'Bikers' Dream' Harley-Davidson Unveils Electric Bicycle

'Bikers' Dream' Harley-Davidson Unveils Electric Bicycle Photo by Harley-Davidson

[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Harley-Davidson is entering the electric bicycle market. It is interpreted that Harley-Davidson, which was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, is seeking a new business path through electric bicycles.

On the 29th (local time), according to CNN Business and IT media The Verge, Harley-Davidson unveiled an electric bicycle brand called 'Serial 1 Cycle' on the 27th.

'Serial 1' is the nickname of the first motorcycle Harley-Davidson made in 1903. The first bicycle of 'Serial 1' was revealed only through photos and videos on this day.

The bicycle, with a black frame and white wheels, exudes a trendy retro feel.

Foreign media speculated based on the released photos that it is a 'mid-drive type' electric bicycle with a motor mounted on the drivetrain in the center of the bicycle, and the battery is likely built into the frame.

The headlight and taillight are also expected to be attached to the frame, and instead of a chain connecting the front and rear drivetrains, a carbon fiber belt is presumed to be used.

Also, the top speed is expected to be either 20 miles per hour (about 32 km/h) or 28 miles per hour (about 45 km/h) in accordance with regulations.

The release is scheduled for March next year, and detailed specifications and prices will be announced on the 16th of next month.

Harley-Davidson has experienced profit declines over the past six years, and its revenue in the second quarter of this year decreased by 47% compared to the previous year, suffering considerable damage from COVID-19. In July, it also announced plans to cut 700 employees.
