[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Health, Welfare, and Environment Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council announced on the 30th that from the 28th to the 29th, they conducted field-centered legislative activities by assessing the operational status of facilities under the committee’s jurisdiction and inspecting sites in Yeosu and Suncheon.


First, the committee members visited Suncheon Medical Center, received explanations about the medical center and the operation status of the COVID-19 screening clinic, and held in-depth discussions on operational improvements and development plans. They also listened to difficulties through a meeting with related personnel.


Afterwards, the committee members visited the fine dust blocking forest created in the Yeosu Industrial Complex, listened to explanations about the effects of blocking fine dust generated from the industrial complex and roads, as well as future plans to expand the blocking forest, and proposed alternatives such as encouraging active cooperation from companies to improve the industrial complex environment.


They also visited the Samhyewon Child Welfare Facility in Yeosu to encourage the facility workers and listen to on-site voices regarding difficulties in facility operation and working conditions.


The committee held a meeting with related personnel regarding the human rights violations and power abuse incidents involving the head of the Women’s Human Rights Support Center, inspected the overall operation status of the welfare corporation, and ordered Yeosu City to promptly resolve the issues through active administration and devise measures to prevent recurrence.


Chairperson Kang Jeong-hee said, “Suncheon Medical Center has significantly contributed to the health promotion of residents and the development of regional health care,” and added, “We will actively support at the council level to ensure there are no difficulties in operating the COVID-19 screening clinic.”


She continued, “We will supplement the shortcomings found during the field activities and strive to actively resolve the difficulties collected on site,” and added, “We will do our best to incorporate the voices from the field into policy.”
