From Friday 4 PM to Sunday midnight
Get a 10,000 KRW refund on the 4th time when spending over 20,000 KRW at dining establishments
Real-time alert messages provided for Samsung and Hyundai cards
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] As the government resumed issuing discount coupons for accommodation, travel, and dining, which had been temporarily suspended due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), credit card companies are currently building related systems and conducting final checks.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the credit card industry, from 4 p.m. today, customers can participate in the dining coupon event through applications at nine credit card companies (KB Kookmin, NH Nonghyup, Lotte, BC, Samsung, Shinhan, Woori, Hana, Hyundai). If customers use dining establishments three times every weekend (from Friday 4 p.m. to Sunday midnight) with a payment of at least 20,000 KRW per visit, they will receive a 10,000 KRW refund (cashback or billing discount) on the fourth dining.
The coupons will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis to 3.3 million people, and the event will end once the coupons are exhausted. Since the event was temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 and has now resumed, dining performance before the suspension will also be retroactively applied. Usage records from all dining establishments except entertainment venues will be included up to twice per day per card company, with a limit of once per day at the same establishment.
The methods for notifying dining coupon usage records vary slightly by card company. Some notify usage via text messages, while others allow checking through websites or applications (apps). Shinhan and Samsung Cards have already established related systems. Shinhan Card supports real-time viewing of expenditure details and cashback information in the government expenditure consumption coupon menu under emergency disaster relief funds on their website or app (Shinhan Pay Fan). Samsung Card provides real-time cumulative usage counts and amounts via text messages or notification talks, and real-time inquiries are also available on their website and app. Hyundai Card also notifies usage counts via text messages in real time when visiting dining establishments and plans to release a service to check cumulative amounts on their website or app starting next week. KB Kookmin Card is developing a computer system to provide real-time text notifications and website usage inquiry services and plans to launch it soon.
Hana Card sends usage records via text messages every Thursday and is developing a system to check usage records on their website and app. BC Card and Lotte Card, which handle payment operations for Woori Card and others, also plan to open pages for usage inquiry on their websites and apps next week.
Regarding marketing related to the dining coupon event, currently only Shinhan Card is conducting separate promotions. Starting from 4 p.m. today, Shinhan Card will hold a lottery among customers who applied for the dining event through My Shop, selecting 3,000 winners to receive Starbucks coupons. Additionally, until the dining coupons are exhausted, first-time My Shop users (customers who downloaded dining coupons via My Shop) will receive 100 points each.
