[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] SK Engineering & Construction has created a platform for exchanging cutting-edge construction technologies.

On the 29th, SK Engineering & Construction held the 'Smart-Con Forum,' a technology exchange event showcasing and demonstrating over 30 latest smart construction technologies, at IS Dongseo's Icheon plant in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, the company announced on the 30th.

The Smart-Con Forum, first held last year by SK Engineering & Construction to introduce the latest construction technologies and enhance understanding of future changes in the construction industry, marked its second edition this year.

The forum was attended by 23 companies related to the construction industry, including SK Engineering & Construction's business partners such as Sebo MEC and Yuchang ENC, as well as Hilti, the world's largest manufacturer of construction materials and tools, with about 500 visitors.

At this event, over 30 latest smart construction technologies related to OSC (Off-Site Construction), DT (Digital Transformation), robotics, and BIM (Building Information Modeling) were introduced. Participating companies set up booths to exhibit and demonstrate technologies currently under research or already developed. Special lectures were also held on topics such as ▲future construction innovation through Pre-con, ▲BIM-utilized OSC, and ▲robotics and the construction industry.

The host, SK Engineering & Construction, showcased its BIM-based PC (Precast Concrete) automated design and construction solution technology under development. This technology provides a platform for collaboration based on BIM and the Internet of Things (IoT) throughout the entire project process, from pre-planning to ordering, design, manufacturing, and construction. When applied to actual projects, it is expected to reduce construction periods by more than 10% compared to existing methods.

SK Engineering & Construction's business partners, Sebo MEC and Yuchang ENC, also introduced modular technology, one of the OSC methods jointly developed with SK Engineering & Construction, at the event.

Sebo MEC, a specialized mechanical equipment construction company, introduced pipe rack module technology tailored for industrial plants. This method involves prefabricating pipe racks as modules in advance instead of assembling and installing them on-site. It significantly shortens construction time and helps prevent safety accidents.

Yuchang ENC, a modular manufacturing and construction specialist, demonstrated dry wall module technology. Compared to conventional methods, this technology uses 25% less gypsum board material, resulting in lighter components and cost savings, and is expected to reduce installation time by 20%.

SK Engineering & Construction plans to apply the technologies introduced at this event to ongoing domestic and overseas projects after completing their development. Through this, the company aims to achieve mutual growth through technological cooperation with business partners and enhance competitiveness in the smart construction technology sector.

Yoon Hyuk-no, Head of SK Engineering & Construction's High-Tech Business Division, said, "The purpose of this event is to respond to the rapidly changing construction environment and share new smart construction technologies with our members and participants," adding, "We will continue to take the lead innovatively in introducing and applying new technologies."
