KT and Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity Join Hands for AI and SW Education

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity to promote and expand education in Software (SW) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The signing ceremony was held in an untact (non-face-to-face) manner to participate in social distancing due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to KT on the 30th, the two organizations will cooperate in ▲ developing AI and SW educational content and solutions ▲ strengthening AI and SW educational capabilities for prospective and current teachers ▲ operating programs to spread AI and SW culture. Additionally, KT will participate in the ‘2020 SW Education Festival’ hosted by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity in November, conducting AI coding education through an online exhibition hall and experiential classes. Furthermore, KT plans to provide AI coding education by participating in the foundation’s teacher capability enhancement program, ‘AI Education Training Embedded in Schools.’

KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo stated, “In the AI era, while the development of AI technology is important, nurturing AI talent is equally crucial,” and added, “KT will continue to strive to cultivate domestic AI talent through the expansion of AI education, including AI coding.” Acting Chairperson of the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, Cho Hyang-sook, said, “To foster AI and SW capabilities in our children living in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, multifaceted, field-oriented support is necessary,” and emphasized plans to expand public-private cooperation to increase accessibility not only to schools but also to private educational content and platforms outside of schools.
