Strengthening Netflix Partnership... KT Launches iPhone 12

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT announced on the 30th that it will officially launch the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. The iPhone 12 has enhanced 5G plan benefits linked with Netflix.

KT held a 'Contactless Live Eve Festival' at 11 PM on the 29th, one day before the iPhone 12 launch. To ensure customer safety, instead of an offline event, the launch was conducted via live broadcast on YouTube. Invited customers to the launch event received their iPhone 12 deliveries at 7 AM on the 30th as a special benefit. The first prize winner was awarded ▲MacBook Air ▲Belkin’s premium smart speaker with wireless charging, ‘SoundForm Elite’. Other prizes such as ▲iPad Pro ▲Apple Watch ▲Giftishow vouchers ▲Netflix goods ▲Americano coffee were also given through a raffle.

Mr. Lim Ho-yeol (27 years old, Gangseo-gu, Seoul), an invited guest and the first prize winner, said, “I am happy to continue using KT, which first introduced the iPhone in Korea, and to receive the iPhone 12 at 7 AM without needing to visit a store.” He added, “I will also make good use of practical benefits like Super Chance R and KT AppleCare Pack going forward.”

Unlimited Netflix Provided

The new iPhone 12 offers the option to select Netflix Choice. This is available when subscribing to KT’s 5G plan ‘Super Plan Choice’. The ▲Super Plan Basic Choice (monthly fee 90,000 KRW) provides the ‘Netflix Basic’ plan worth 9,500 KRW per month. The ▲Super Plan Special Choice (110,000 KRW) offers Netflix Basic plus ‘Seezn Choice (select 1)’. The ▲Super Plan Premium Choice (130,000 KRW) includes the ‘Netflix Standard’ plan worth 12,000 KRW per month and Seezn Choice (select 1).

KT’s 5G plans offer up to a 50% discount on monthly fees when applying a 25% selection discount and a 25% premium family bundle discount. With the maximum discount applied, customers using the Super Plan Special Choice can enjoy unlimited 5G data along with unlimited content from Netflix and Seezn for around 50,000 KRW per month. Lee Sung-hwan, Head of KT 5G/GiGA Business Division (Executive Director), said, “We have prepared programs and rich plan benefits that customers can reasonably choose based on analysis of iPhone users’ characteristics. KT will continue to introduce services that enhance customers’ lives.”

Diversification of Replacement Programs

KT has diversified programs available according to customers’ iPhone replacement cycles. After first unveiling ‘Super Change’, which compensates up to 50% of the original price after two years, KT is now launching ‘Super Chance R’, a unique one-year replacement program in the industry for iPhone enthusiasts who want to use a new iPhone every year. Super Chance R is a rental program that allows users to switch to a new iPhone anytime after using it for one year, with monthly rental fees equivalent to 24-month installment payments. Notably, Super Chance R includes the ‘KT AppleCare Pack’ free of charge as a comprehensive package. Super Chance R subscriptions are available from October 30 to January 31, 2021.

KT AppleCare Pack, introduced alongside the iPhone 12 launch, is a partnership product prepared by KT and Apple. It includes ‘AppleCare’ service that covers up to two damages every 12 months and ‘iCloud’ with 50GB monthly storage. The monthly fee is 8,000 KRW for the iPhone 12 and 11,000 KRW for the iPhone 12 Pro, which KT explains is more reasonable than purchasing these services separately.
