‘Long Live Korean Independence on an Autumn Day’... Mapo-gu Hosts ‘Nara Sarang Festival’

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) will hold the 'Daehan Independence Manse Love for the Nation Festival with Mapo-gu' to commemorate the value and spirit of the March 1st Movement.

Starting with a memorial concert on the 29th, online quizzes and acrostic poem events will be held from the 30th to November 8th.

Originally scheduled to be held for three days in March on Hongdae Walking Street, the 'Daehan Independence Manse Love for the Nation Festival with Mapo-gu' was indefinitely postponed due to the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). Recently, following the easing of social distancing to level 1, the event will be held in a hybrid format both online and offline.

The memorial concert held on the 29th at the Culture Yard (T0) of the Culture Depot invited about 80 residents, including local merit recipients and culturally marginalized groups. All events were operated with seating arrangements maintaining a distance of at least 1.5 meters in compliance with the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' regional festival manual.

Popular singers such as Jeon Mi-kyung, Jin Mi-ryeong, Kim Hye-yeon, and rookie singers performed and interacted with the residents at the memorial concert. The concert was broadcast live on Naver TV and cable TV on the day of the event and can be watched again later as a recorded broadcast on IPTV and cable TV (KT Olleh 143, LG Uplus 153, CMB 58-3, Seokyung Broadcasting 134).

The 'Love for the Nation Online Quiz and Acrostic Poem Event,' held from the 30th to November 8th, can be participated in through the Mapo-gu website and SNS. Online quizzes and acrostic poem events searching for independence movement sites in the Mapo area, which even Mapo residents were not well aware of, will be conducted. Through a drawing, 100 participants will receive gifticons worth about 5,000 won.

Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun of Mapo-gu said, “Through this festival, I hope to honor the noble sacrifices of independence activists and provide an opportunity for our descendants to reflect on the value and spirit of the March 1st Movement.” He added, “At this time of overlapping difficulties such as COVID-19 and economic hardship, let us emulate the courage and wisdom of our ancestors to overcome this crisis.”
